Our Story

Founder and owner, Pete Janssen joined the Carpenters 46 Union of Northern California in 1987 and quickly learned the commercial aspect of the trade through projects such as Fremont Ford, REI and Planet Granite. After the Union, he started an apprenticeship with a custom home builder from Lake Tahoe, who built breathtaking mansions on the waterfront. It was there that he learned the art of fine craftsmanship and finish work. From that point, they began building 5,000-10,000 sq/ft custom homes in Morgan Hill & Gilroy.

In 1993 Janssen Builders was founded, and Pete went on to build his first project in San Jose, The Usual Nightclub. As a result of the impressive finish work, referrals quickly started pouring in and Pete went on to build several bars & restaurants in the surrounding area including Palo Alto. To name a few: The Agenda Lounge, The Spy, Shark And Rose, Johnny V’s, Mission Ale House, Willow Glen Billiards & Brew, and more recently Fleming’s Steakhouse. Janssen Builders progressed onto building and remodeling luxury custom homes in some very affluent south Bay Area neighborhoods such as Portola Valley, Menlo Park, Atherton, Los Altos and Los Gatos.
